Lightning Bolts
We wanted to have large lightning bolts on each side of the shade structure for both day and night. So we designed 4, 4x7' plywood slabs that were primed, painted, and clear coated before adding clips to hold LED "neon" rope lights.
Rope is an easy way to see how long of LED strips we needed
Primed and ready for the design!
Painting the silver lightning bolts. Silver took 2 coats of paint
Painting the black background. Black took 2 coats of paint
Two coats of clear coat protected the paint during transport and on playa
~50 plastic clips were screwed on each lightning bolt to hold the LED rope light. As with all good projects, and given this needed to be done for 4 boards, this took more time than anticipated.
Final product! Silver bolt during the day, lit with a multi-color LED option at night!
Conduit Dresses
To mask the metal conduit, we designed and sewed conduit "dresses."
12 dresses of 6' for the horizontal top connectors
9 dresses of 8' for the vertical poles
