Build
Placement at and by the ARTeryÂ
The photo was encouraged, despite the confidential sign 🤩
The Floofie (a CD with pink tassels) indicated where the installation should be. We were placed in deep playa at 12:43 and 5400'.Â
After a day of rest (due to rain and the inability to build), we're all smiles, fresh, in our coveralls, and ready to build!
We added dresses to the conduit to mask the visual of the metal poles
Raising the roof!
Attaching ratchet straps to secure the structure
Paul attaching the solar cables
Tarps were attached to the conduit by bungee balls
All of the electronics were neatly organized in the inside of the interp panel
Light sensitive switches were installed on each circuit so that the lights would only turn on when the sun went down (to save power)
Paul finishing installing the backup solar lightsÂ
As the sunsets, the lights turned on!Â
Great success - the lights and sound both work! Â
During the build, we determined the lights for the interp panels caused interference. This sounded like an annoying hum and could be visualized using an audio spectrum analyzer; note the horizontal bright line at 16000Hz. Fortunately, the house lights provided more than enough light to read the interp panels, so we opted to not use the interp panel lights.
We expected the build to take 6-ish hours; however, it ended up taking 10 hours. We left after sundown, conveniently in time to test all of the solar settings and make sure our lights turned on.Â
Despite a long day of building, the weather was enjoyable (low 90's) with limited wind and dust.Â
We were pleased when the lights turned on and we could hear the crackles and pops of live lightning. We successfully installed Whispers of a Distant Storm at Burning Man!Â
